We’ve Turned the Corner

Welcome back to our home renovation, remodel, and addition.

We are continuing on to the north side of the addition, and we’re doing some of the trim out here. This first little bit’s going to be pretty similar to what we did last time on the east wall.

We have our ladder frame, which is going to go up top to drop the head height and make that opening more of a cased opening.

We’re getting the first course set.

Next getting some filler installed to build up the trim for the next course.

Now that the top band is in, we can start working here and get this filled out. This is one of those areas that is an interesting challenge to make it look like it’s all supposed to be there together.

We’ve decided that this wall is going to be siding all the way up, and then we’ll have a post or a column here, and that’ll tie into the column on the other side. Then we’ll end up with a fully cased opening, same size on both ends.

So we are going to start working on this column-post area here. As part of that, we’re going to fur out the inside of the ladder frame to match the inside of the post over in the corner.

We need more wide material to finish up the outside corner, so we’re going to keep moving by working on the porch trim for now.

Next is the sill piece. We’ll put the same detail we did on the other side, where we lap the sill over the casing and put a little return on there so it looks like it’s a return molding.

Next, we are going to just do a little bit of siding and get this patched back in. We replaced the mostly rotten window sill with some of our new stuff.

There we go, another wall of siding. The square footage of Tyvek is shrinking!

Next up, we’re going to do some of the trim on the bump out.

So that takes care of most of the stuff in here. We have a few pieces still to do.

So now, we’re going to finish wrapping up this band detail. Underneath here, we will be installing some thin plywood panels, which will get painted like everything else.

And that takes care of this outside corner.

We’re going to switch gears and get into siding. We’re almost done with all the siding on this house! We have a bunch of small pieces to run through here, as well as the siding underneath the window.

All right, this face of the bump out wall is fully trimmed! Still a lot more trim to go, but at least it is coming right along.

Next time, we’re going to be continuing on with some more stuff out here. We’ll put the steps in, get that framed out, and then we can do all the trim work where the current temp steps are. I think we’ll do the column too. So, thank you, as always, for joining, we greatly appreciate it. If you have any questions or comments on the home renovation-remodel-addition, please feel free to leave us a comment. As always, we’d be happy to answer any questions you might have, and until next time, happy woodworking!
