This week I made a good amount of progress on my trim installation project. I finished trimming out the two door frames, got one of the windows framed and the other half done, and am almost done with the baseboard install.
Toronto meet up is scheduled for May 28, 2016. Time and location to be determined.

Nintendo End Table by Ben
I’ve always been a retro gaming enthusiast, so this piece combines my love for building things with my love for games. Several years ago I built a coffee table that doubled as a WORKING Nintendo controller (it really played a Nintendo) so this piece was to accompany that. I finally picked it back up a few years ago and saw it through to the end.
The power button turns on the little red LED and also sends power to the single outlet in back (intended for a lamp). For added nostalgia, the reset button simply makes the LED and the lamp flicker on and off when pressed. The outlet in front replaces the controller ports and is for charging a phone, controllers, etc. It always has power as long as the whole unit is plugged in to the wall. The lid flips open to reveal the front of a game cartridge which pulls out for storage space of remotes, batteries, etc.
The whole piece can sit on its own stand as an end table, or on a shelf for display.
Ive included a picture of the coffee table just so you can see the whole set
Rocking Walnut Bassinet by Jeremy
I wanted to send over pics of my rocking walnut bassinet that I built for my daughter. She is my wife’s and I’s first child and was born Jan 17th, 2016. In the months leading up to her birth my wife and I wanted something unique for our first child, something that we could keep in the family for generations. Having just gotten into woodworking in the last year or so, we knew we wanted it to be hand crafted, giving it that extra special touch. When I came across your youtube video for your bassinet, we both fell in love with what we saw. I knew right then and there I had to make it. I have to admit I was pretty nervous to take on this project, and was worried it was well outside my skill set, given the angles in the project. Up until this project, I had only made small personal items, the most difficult being a small bedside table with mortise and tenon joinery. So I watched your video over and over, taking great care with every little piece of the project to not screw up. I decided to go with flat slats, made of hard maple, for the sides, that had angled tenons on each end. I chose this rather than round dowels, as I don’t have a lathe and thought it would be more expensive to buy dowels. Wow did this become a huge challenge… each and every cut of the tenon had to be a new adjustment on my table saw tenon jig that I purchased for this project. This proved to be very time consuming and difficult to sneak up on that nice tight fight, which could only be done on the last cut of the tenon. I also had to use relative dimensioning to figure out the right length for the slats. The ends and rails are all made from walnut, and the mattress panel is ship lapped soft curly maple. It took me over 2 1/2 months to complete, working around my job and on the weekends. It all came together relatively well, minus a few very stressful moments during the glue-up of the first end. Seeing it all assembled and finished has been the most rewarding feeling I have ever had in my life, besides my daughter being born of course, knowing that I hand crafted it for my first child. Everyone who has seen the bassinet sort of loses their mind over how beautiful it is.
