Jeep Grill Coffee Table by Peter

A few months back this really nice lady asked me to design and build a coffee table using a glass table top she had which would serve as a cover to a Jeep grill made of wood.  The table was to be a Christmas gift for her sweetie.  Both are off-road Jeepers that do all that rock climbing and go slow stuff.

She gave me a free hand as to what species of wood, what color, and what leg style.  Cool!

Timeline Table by Andrew

We had an Ice storm that took down large ash trees on our property. I used a large round to make what I call a timeline table to keep as a memento.

Conoid Table by Dustin

I thought I’d share some photos of my first legit wood working project. It is a replica of a George Nakashima’s Conoid desk which I found searching online. I basically had to just use images online to find the scale and joinery methods. Maybe I’ll one in person and see how close I got. First time with dovetails, see if you can find the Full Blind dovetails. White Oak slab top from Farmington sawmill and air dried Black Walnut from one tree from a local White Bear lake wood worker. All panels are book matched.

Crib by Mark

I wanted to update you and thank you again for your help while I was making my baby’s crib.  It is now officially done and I am very pleased with how it turned out.  After weighing my time constraints and ease of manufacturing, I decided to take the easiest way and pin through the front and back just as you did and I am extremely happy with the result.  I attached some pictures of it in the room with the tree my wife painted as well.

  1. Hi Matt,
Good luck with your speaking appointment. I’ve followed you on your update videos and I can tell you that you speak very well. You have a good way of talking about things and have a very good vocal delivery. So don’t worry – you’ll be OK.

  2. Matt, I too have a fear of public speaking and strangely enough I am called upon frequently to lead a discussion or speak at a large gathering. Recently I was asked to officiate at my Aunt’s memorial. While researching this I came across a little joke that may help put you at ease. ” A large group of people were surveyed, they were asked, What is your greatest fear? The number one greatest fear was Public Speaking. Number 2 was death. So, if you are call upon to officiate at a funeral you are better off in the casket (or Urn) then then giving the eulogy!” I think this is from George Carlin but I can’t remember where it came from. I will likely be at WIA, so good luck with your presentation. Feel free to use the joke to break the ice???? Be sure and give Carlin credit.
    Fred
