I’m still applying finish to the farmhouse table benches which means those things are still taking up all of the space in my shop. So since not much has changed since last week, I’ll answer some questions I’ve been getting regarding the drills and taps I’ve been using.

Dining Table by Chris
Made it inside just in time for Thanksgiving. It’s made of cherry (some of it figured), curly maple, and figured walnut, with ambrosia maple plugs on the breadboards. I wanted to bring together the cherry and curly maple from a couple of pieces in the background which were originally made by my Dad (with more recent modifications by me) and the walnut of the kitchen which I redid last year (picture also included). The most fun part of the project was figuring out how to cut mortises on the corners of the legs for tenons which come off the 45-degree support braces. The walnut draw-bored plugs on the legs are also on a 45. Next comes some new chairs, though I haven’t come up with a design yet that I like.
Inspired by the designs of Brian D Collier: http://furniture.briandcollier.net/index.htm
Medicine Cabinet by Joe
This is a medicine cabinet that I made from cherry. All joints hand cut.
The design was inspired by Mike Pekovich. He gives Krenov credit for his inspiration but Mike seems to have developed his own style.
The finish was inspired by Sam Maloof. I used his recipe from an old Fine Woodworking article.
The work was done to music inspired by Christian Becksvoort………… Cowboy Junkies
Marking Knife by Dan
I made this from an old saw blade. I was inspired by a fountain pen for the shape of the blade and based the handle off of an artist paint brush. The handle is walnut with brass pins. The blade is kind of long so this would probably work best as a mortise marking knife. But I really don’t know anything about either marking knives or mortises.
Side Tables by Noah
My name is Noah Miller and I’m 18 and started woodworking with my grandfather since I was 5 ever since that I was intrigued in the hobby. So I made two side table for my mom for Christmas. The top is made out of reclaimed 1x4s and they were all hand planed with a block plane, I’m hoping to get a bench plane. And the legs are tapered and made out of 2x4s. The top is put together with half laps and glue, and the legs are put together with pocket holes and glue. For the finish I used black paint for the legs and sanded them to give it a rustic finish then I used English chestnut stain and then a clear satin varnish. I can’t wait to give it to her for Christmas.
