Matt’s Weekly Shop Update – April 26, 2018

Thanks to everyone who chatted with me at Fine Woodworking Live! It was a blast! Back in the shop, I made minor progress on the outfeed table and the river table. This weekend the Highboy will be in the Northern Woods Show.

Rocking Lion by Alex

This is a lion rocking horse I made for my grandsons 1st Christmas. It is made from red oak and maple. The finish is beeswax and mineral oil. It is fasten with dowels and glue.

River Dining Table by Kyle

I’m a self taught woodworker from the Chicago western suburbs who started as a trim carpenter for remodeling and recently started my own table making business.

It is Nakashima inspired; 7.5′ long book matched cherry slabs with 8 gallons of solid epoxy resin tinted blue as the river.

It has two 1′ long extensions cut off of the original slabs to create a seamless extensions rather than the traditional breadboard look.

Sexy custom steel triangle design legs to finish it off.

Entry Table by Jeremy

This is an entry way table with a live edge walnut slab and a single drawer that I made for my wife. The drawer is made up of walnut and curly maple using half blind dovetails in the front and through dovetails in the back. The drawer supports are attached to the table top with a sliding dovetail. This is my first piece of “finer” furniture and it was a blast to make!

Warped Box by Jon

This is a “warped” box I made in my school wood shop class. It is made from contrasting red oak and mahogany. The crazy warped pattern was formed on the bandsaw by stacking the mahogany and oak boards, cutting them together, and alternating every other piece. The hardest part of this project was designing it so that the waves flowed continuously across all four sides. It was finished with boiled linseed oil and wipe on polyurethane. You can find out more about this project in my instructable.
