Bench Dog No 4 Smoothing Plane

52086-01-1000Quality materials, precision machining and solid construction result in a hand plane that turns out exceptionally fine shavings, and is an absolute pleasure to use. The sole is precision ground to be flat right out of the box, and the blade is pre-sharpened so you can start turning out curls right away. The castings are finished to an exceedingly fine grain that is on par with top-of-the-line bench planes. The blade is made from 1/8” steel for reduced chatter and excellent edge retention. The solid rosewood tote and knob round out an already excellent performer with a touch of elegance. Each plane includes a wooden case and individual inspection report with measurements specific to your plane for sole flatness and blade hardness.

To start things off, I’ll make the panel which will become the sides and top. While that’s sitting in the clamps, I’ll prep the material

  5. Congrats on hitting the 100k subscriber mark. Thankyou for giving me the inspiration to get out of bed and make stuff, not easy when you’ve got Narcolepsy.
Your videos have helped me more than you would believe.

Side note. Struggling with entering your 3 year competition. I have gone through the list but still shows zero entries, don’t know if it’s just me?

  6. Congratulations to the milestone and the new member of the clan.
I like to see your mill finally working and all my doubts going up in smoke.

    Greetings from Germany

  10. Hi Matt
It’s always a pleasure to see your new videos after having binge watched everything you’ve posted so far.
Sometimes it’s like watching a serie and I’m waiting for the next episode (still searching a title… The Big Cremona Theory, or Game of Logs – and for sure looking at your shots, winter is coming…)
Keep up your so good job Matt and see you next week (at least I will see you).
    Greetings from France.

  16. Mother Nature has given us woodworkers a beautiful medium to work with. It is our jobs as woodworkers to take that pice of wood and unlock that beauty and bring it out for all to see.

  17. Hay.Matt……..I’ve been following you for a long time and have been wondering what you ar going to do with all that rough cut lumber…….You all ready have to keep you busy for a long time…………..

  18. Matt watching you makes me miss working with wood again. I built my own 16 x 20′ workshop more than 18 years ago, but being a single mom I didn’t have the time. But now with my daughter in college been making plans to get back in there.
